Karlsruhe Gallery displays modern art from fabric




Karlsruhe (dpa / lsw) - The textile fabric as a material for artists devoted to an exhibition at the Städtische Galerie Karlsruhe. Shown are from Saturday about 80 works by 37 modern artists Joseph Beuys, Sigmar Polke and to Cosima von Bonin and Josephine Meckseper.

The span of the exhibition "Art fabric. Textiles in art since 1960", which was presented on Friday, ranges from sculptures made ​​of felt to collagen from clothing.

In past centuries had been used primarily in fabric crafts, such as tapestries and tapestry, said the curator. Only in the middle of last century, artists have discovered the material for separate works.

Was conspicuous above all the use of felt, which plays an important role in Beuys as a symbol of warmth and security. His fellow American artist Robert Morris is fascinated more contrast, the structure of the substance that can be created out of flowing sculptures. The exhibition is open until 12th February to see.
